well I didn't need that bit of ego anyway
May. 7th, 2009 09:05 amMet with Roscoe last night at Starbucks (the Authorman. Rare few I've spoken to about my SEKRIT COMIC PROJECT will know who he is). It was generally pleasant! No weird moments, not when they happened anyway, but only when I consider it in retrospect. And then I think again, it's Roscoe. Eh. As long as he doesn't get deliberate/carried away with it, I shouldn't have to put my foot up his ass.
Talked about comics, discussed a lot over what to do at Fanime, plans for more future art after Fanime, website plans, etc. Gave me the alarming news that Chris (Publisherman) really disliked page 3 of our teaser, as well as the not-as-alarming truth that I scared the shit out of him when the art I delivered looked very much not what he hired me to draw (thanks to my stellar creative judgment I decided to ink the art, not actually thinking that the fact they decided to forgo the inker/inking stage had any bearing on my decisions.) Roscoe also gave the sobering confirmation that, yes, the backgrounds I did, little as they were, were kind of wtf. OF NO FAULT THAT WAS MY OWN, OF COURSE. (I had to add them in after all the foreground characters were in place cuz the script he first handed me had NO BACKGROUND DETAIL WHATSOEVER.) But y'know, it just goes to show that I can't pull a hood over how MADE OF SUCK my backgrounds are. I hope to pull the Novice Card for at least the next year.
And, best of all, our parting words:
"But don't be too bothered when I tell you that I don't like your art." (re: inked art)
"Oh no, as long as you're not telling me that you don't like all of it."
"Of course, I wouldn't have hired you if that was the case. Just, don't try to ink anything. Until you've been doing it for at least 2 years."
"Ah, right. *GRIMACE, which thankfully is not visible in the outdoors parking lot at 10:30pm*"
Lol especially great since an hour ago I was telling him that I personally found the inked teasers good-looking, cuz I'm not used to clean art and I'm rather proud of being able to deliver it and I know it's shaky but it's cuz I'm still trying to get used to my brush pen.
LIFE LESSON: when you're feeling good about something, stop. More importantly, never say it out loud.
